I love the attention to detail in terms of strictly Persian names, but let me throw a downer on this thread by introducing some realism…
Yes, the games take place at an unknown time, but we do know that the Persians ruled Babylon at a specific period in history: from 539 to 331 BC. In other words, long long before the advent of ‘Arabs to Persia and definitely before Arabic writing and Islam to the region! Therefore all Islamic and Arab–influenced names would not exist, and neither would the Arabic writing in Sands of Time! They’d no doubt speak Aramaic, since the Persians made it their ‘lingua franca’. _________________ $_=q{$_=q{Q};s/Q/$_/;print};s/Q/$_/;print |

The Prince wasn't born in Persia, but in a mysterious faraway land. Hence his real name does not have to be Arabic/Persian.
Maybe the Prince's original land was one of the many Asian kingdoms conquered by the Mongols. Do not forget that at one point all of continental Asia, including Persia, was ruled by the Mongols. Farah in SOT was daughter of the Maharajah of the Mughal (=Mongol) Empire of India.
Since he was saved from the destruction of his parents' kingdom by his mother who put him in a basket on the river, he probably does not even know his first name unless his mother put a note in the basket. Because the Prince did tell his name to the Princess (in the strategy guide), it seems this is how it happened. _________________ Het Vlaamse heir staat immer pal

No way, guys.
The Prince is named "Dario", which is my actual name in real life, too.
This name has got persian roots: the original persian name was Darayavaush, lately renamed into Daréios by ancient greeks.
There was a persian king in history named Dario: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darius_the_Great_of_Persia
The name means "keeper of the good" and it's also been used as a name for a combo in Warrior Within. |
