Do you mean like.. you've got into the garden area with the statue for the first time and you don't know where to go, right?
If I'm thinking of the right time and place, I was stuck on the same bit.
If you go back to the part of the garden where you first came in, there should be a ladder hanging down a little bit away from the wall next to the corridor that takes you back to the last save point.
It's hard to see until you notice it, then you can't believe it took you so long.
