I mean in version IR, you can turn into the shadow in all the temple levels, unlike the two others (only in the last temple level (level 13)).

Is a bug that the enemies are stupid in 1.1? or the programmators have decided to do that?
Most likely a bug. I cannot believe that the programmers decided to do it like that. But who knows!?

To take the flame is necessary dead, so why the guards kill you?
"He Who Would Steal The Flame Must Die" ... and that guard (the birdman) must kill you (the player will not realize at first that he or she must get killed by that bird man), otherwise you can use this trick: http://popuw.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=909. _________________ Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true -
When I look and I find, I still love you,
I still love you.
Yes, i know and i have finished the game time ago, but i am speaking of the story: the birdmans know that who want to steal the flame must die, so why the guards kill you if the person that have the flame must be venerated?
Exists other mode to die: fall down, the spikes, the blades...
The birdmans make a favor to the prince killing he.
I hope to be clearly.
Btw thanks for the answers jalal
There is also likenesses in pop2 and WW:
To finish the game completly, you need all energy expanders, and there is the transformation: Shadowman and Sand Wrath.
I use 1.1 and i can transforme also in the first temple level:
Oops, sorry sorry I got confused... my bad. I thought you asked about turning into the flame.
Yes, you can turn into the shadow in all the temple levels if you have 11 or 12 lives (or by just pressing Shift+S in cheats mode).

The prince did not know anything about the flame. (Red quotes are taken from the official strategy guide.)
I don't know how I had the time to see it, but I did notice a great tapestry on the wall that said "He who would steal the flame must die." It meant nothing to me at the time, but I would soon learn what it meant.
Knowing that you die, meaning you will completely die; you will not be able to resurrect from death. But, the prince can do so through his shadow. His shadow will emerge from the prince's body and get the flame.
An iridescent blue flame flickered in a huge torch. A great statue of an eagle perthed over it. I was fascinated by the flame; so much so that the guard took me by surprise. I was very weak after all my battles, and the guard's blow was sudden. I died. I felt my spirit leave my body, and all was blackness.
In a dream, I imagined my shadow-self emerging and jumping across to the great torch. He touched the blue flame and it infused him. Then he jumped back across and came to me, lying dead on the ground.
Suddenly I was awake. I was alive. Dream or otherwise, I was no longer dead or in great pain. I felt a new vitality flowing within me. Even stranger, the guard, who had just a moment before killed me, now bowed his head to the ground before me. It made no sense to me, but I was pleased with the change in attitude.
I decided to head back toward the exit doors. There was nothing else to do here.
If you don't get the flame, you will not be able to turn into the flame on the last level.
Then I heard a voice. It was like the voice of the queen, mother, and it told me, "Let the Shadow free." I didn't know what the voice meant, but inside me I could feel a stirring, and a vision of a blue flame passed before my mind's eye. In all my life, I've never had such feelings and thoughts.
I think I went into some kind of trance, then, Hamza. It was as if I were no longer there. I turned first this way, then that, no longer in control of my body and as I did, I could feel the vitality flowing out of me.
Now, I had been through a lot what with the skeletons, the snakes, the goblin heads, and the strange bird-headed priests. I had even died and been reborn. But this was beyond my comprehension. I could see the blue flame bursting from my body still turned. Then I fell.
This time I did not lose consciousness, Hamza. I saw my body crumple on the floor, draped over one purple square of the chess board. But I stood above it, illuminated with the glow of the sacred flame. I ran to the east, jumping easily over a gap in the floor.

Yeah, POP2:TTATF is a mysterious and a legendary game.
I think that the oldwoman at the end is the boss enemy of the third pop game that Mechner wanted to create in 1996. _________________ Prince of Persia 3D DL (Brøderbund, 1999, 900MB)

Wrong, you can become the shadow man in every level from the tenth one. But you can only get the flame body with this IR-trick. _________________ We have a little cat,
