MP3 is impossible. I mean, it could've been done if we had Prince of Persia source code.

Hell, we need to contact Jordan Mechner NOW!!!

Or we just try to do it ourselves... What would almost be impossible. Maybe we can hack the crap out of this game...? Or is it possible, that we can make some hex-editing for the background music to come in. The developers could look into the prince.exe of PoP2 to fond where the music is integrated in... OK, I know. Dumb ideas, but a little bit is on. We really can do it, if we put some time in.

No so impossible. MP3 can be converted to WAV and WAV may be played by POP. The problem is the file size. DAT files have some limitations:

A DAT resource has a limit size of 65535 bytes and an offset limit of 65535 bytes too, so you can add a resource starting at 65535 with 65535 bytes.

So the maximum possible is:
1 resource of 65529
1 resource of 65535

Can you add enough wave music there?

You bring me on an idea... Is it possible that we can expand the limit of a DAT ressource?

OK, I give up... Let's say it's just impossible to add background music into the levels...

As I said 2 or 3 times before, we shouldn't worry about the format first, we should get a way to MAKE it play in the background, insert it there. At first we could try any MID or WAV file Prince uses.

It is possible (but very complicated), and could be a nice hack to purpose in the hex editing thread. You also should recompile PR to support the new limits and recompile all dat files to do so.

In my opinion it is very difficult (but possible).

Hi !

I am not a hex editing professional , but If I wanted to try inserting music background in pop1 , I would first take a big look in how they made this on pop2 , just a remark ..

Anyway in my memory , jordan Mechner programmed pop1 but did he programmed pop2 , I have a doubt about that , maybe he just supervised the whole development of it no ?

Lance Groody programmed pop1. Mechner made the levels and directed the project.

ME? Shocked Why the heck do you ask ME to do some hex-editing!? You know, that I can't do it... Sad
