This ain't deserted: level 1 is full of guards, and can't find the sword!! How can I do??

Desert, not deserted. :) Desert has to do with the terrain. Little precipitation, living conditions are hostile for life.

Hahaha,dont worry in POP2 you can see the desert,in POP 1 only can see palace and dungeos(this empire is build over desert)is necessary practice: the first level

Very long and sometimes mazy lvls, a few only could be passed by bug using. Sometimes no followup rooms are created, which is terrible if u got far. No backup starting positions in that long lvls like in this mod are always guaranteeing an awful and disgusting gameplay.
